Abstract

Data centers consume significant energy and generate substantial carbon footprints, driving active efforts to improve operational efficiency. Effective operational decision support systems must go beyond cost reduction alone, enabling improvements across the entire operational model, including workforce organization. This paper presents an AI-based framework for SLA governance in data center operations that identifies workforce dynamics as a key enabler of, or constraint on, performance. By carefully analyzing operational records, the framework supports the definition of staffing concepts and key performance indicators. AI-enabled workforce dynamics analysis further helps pinpoint operational inefficiencies linked to staff dimensions that have little bearing on SLA compliance, revealing where improvement efforts would yield limited benefit. Integrating predictive analytics into compliance monitoring enables proactive SLA assurance, supporting timely and effective responses to service-impacting conditions. Applying these analytical concepts to an in-house corporate data center reveals areas where operational capacity is currently maintained below required levels, increasing the likelihood of operational constraints.
