The European Journal of Advances in Artificial Intelligence (EJAAI) is an open-access, peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to publishing high-quality, original research across all areas of Artificial Intelligence and its emerging real-world applications. Journal History
The European Journal of Advances in Artificial Intelligence (EJAAI) was founded in 2023 by ESA Research in response to the rapidly growing global demand for a dedicated, high-quality open-access publication platform in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The journal published its inaugural issue in October 2023 and has since grown to publish four issues per year on a quarterly schedule. Since its founding, EJAAI has attracted research contributions from authors across multiple countries and disciplines, reflecting the journal's commitment to international scholarly engagement and cross-disciplinary AI research. EJAAI achieved Scopus indexing, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to research quality, editorial integrity, and global visibility.

EJAAI publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, case studies, technical reports, short communications, and replication studies across all areas of Artificial Intelligence. Both theoretical and applied contributions are welcomed, provided they are scientifically rigorous and of relevance to an international readership.

Open Access Policy
EJAAI operates under a full Gold Open Access model, compliant with the open-access mandates of major international research funding bodies, including Plan S, NIH, and Horizon Europe. All accepted articles are immediately, permanently, and freely accessible upon publication with no subscription fee, paywall, or embargo period for readers anywhere in the world.
To sustain high publication standards, operational expenses including peer review management, editorial processing, professional typesetting, DOI registration via CrossRef, and long-term digital archiving are supported through Article Processing Charges (APCs), applied only after formal acceptance following peer review. No charges are applied at the point of submission.

Peer Review Policy
EJAAI employs a double-blind peer review process in which neither authors nor reviewers are disclosed to each other during the review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo the following workflow:
Step 1 — Initial Editorial Screening: Assessment of scope alignment, originality, language quality, and formatting compliance. Completed within 3 to 5 working days.
Step 2 — Plagiarism and Research Integrity Check: All submissions are screened using iThenticate plagiarism detection software. A similarity index of less than 15% (excluding the reference list) is required for a manuscript to proceed to peer review.
Step 3 — Double-Blind Peer Review: A minimum of two independent expert reviewers drawn from relevant AI sub-disciplines evaluate each manuscript. Review is targeted to be completed within 14 to 21 days.
Step 4 — Editorial Decision: The Editor-in-Chief issues a formal decision (Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject) communicated with structured, constructive reviewer feedback.
Step 5 — Revision and Re-Review: Authors must submit a detailed Response to Reviewers document addressing each comment point by point. Revised manuscripts may be returned to reviewers for re-evaluation.
Step 6 — Final Acceptance and Production: Professional copyediting, typesetting, DOI assignment via CrossRef, and online-first publication. Target: within 7 days of final acceptance.
Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
EJAAI upholds the highest standards of ethical scholarly publishing in full compliance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and Scopus content selection criteria.
Authorship: All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. AI tools may not be listed as authors under any circumstances. Authors must disclose any use of AI writing or generation tools in manuscript preparation.
Plagiarism: Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate submission, and data fabrication or falsification are treated as serious ethical violations and will result in immediate rejection or retraction.
Conflicts of Interest: All authors, reviewers, and editors must declare any financial, personal, or professional interests that could be perceived as influencing the research, review, or editorial decision.
Corrections and Retractions: EJAAI follows COPE Retraction Guidelines. Post-publication actions including corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, and removals are handled with full transparency and communicated to all relevant indexing databases including Scopus.
Editorial Ethics and Independence
All editorial decisions at EJAAI are made solely on the basis of scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope. The Editor-in-Chief and editorial board members are independent of the publisher (ESA Research) in all matters of editorial decision-making. No submission is accepted or rejected on the basis of the authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, race, gender, religion, or any commercial consideration. The editorial board has full and final authority over all publication decisions.
Privacy Statement
EJAAI respects the confidentiality and security of all personal information provided by authors, reviewers, and readers, in compliance with applicable international data protection regulations including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Data collected is strictly limited to what is necessary for manuscript submission processing, editorial communication, and journal operations.
Personal data are stored securely on access-controlled systems, accessible only to authorized editorial personnel with a legitimate operational need, and used exclusively for journal-related purposes. Personal data are never sold or shared with unauthorized third parties.

Digital Preservation and Archiving
EJAAI employs a robust multi-layered digital preservation strategy to ensure the permanent safeguarding and long-term accessibility of the scholarly record. All published content is:
Securely stored across geographically redundant, distributed server infrastructure. Continuously backed up through automated systems on a regular scheduled basis. Preserved through long-term digital archiving in internationally recognized repositories. Assigned permanent Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) via CrossRef for stable, globally citation-ready linking.
EJAAI is committed to participation in recognized digital preservation systems. The journal is in the process of registering with LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS), internationally recognized distributed digital preservation networks that ensure long-term preservation and access to the scholarly record even in the event of publisher failure or platform discontinuation. Authors and institutions can be assured that all published content will remain permanently accessible and citable.
Retraction, Correction and Expression of Concern Policy
EJAAI is fully committed to maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record in accordance with COPE Retraction Guidelines. Post-publication actions may include:
Corrections (Errata / Corrigenda): For minor errors that do not affect the conclusions, validity, or reproducibility of the work.
Expressions of Concern: Issued when serious questions are raised about a published article and an active editorial or institutional investigation is underway.
Retractions: For confirmed research misconduct, fundamental errors, fabricated data, or results that can no longer be relied upon.
Removals: Reserved strictly for exceptional legal, ethical, or copyright-related circumstances.
All post-publication actions are handled with full transparency, documented publicly on the journal website, and communicated directly to Scopus and all relevant indexing databases.
Complaints and Appeals
EJAAI provides a transparent, fair, and accessible procedure for handling editorial complaints and appeals, fully aligned with COPE guidelines. Formal complaints must be submitted in writing to the editorial office at editor@esa-research.org, accompanied by relevant supporting documentation. Each case is reviewed promptly and impartially by the Editorial Office in consultation with appropriate senior editorial authorities. Authors may appeal an editorial decision once. All final appeal outcomes are communicated in writing and are binding. The process ensures fairness, confidentiality, and consistency at every stage. Response time for complaints: within 10 working days of receipt.
Call for Special Issues
EJAAI invites leading researchers, domain experts, and scientific community leaders to propose Special Issues on focused, emerging, or interdisciplinary topics within Artificial Intelligence. Proposals should include the proposed topic title and clearly defined scientific objectives, scope and relevance to AI research and the journal's aims, guest editor qualifications and institutional affiliations and Scopus author profiles, and proposed timeline, call-for-papers text, and estimated submission volume. All special issue manuscripts undergo the same rigorous double-blind peer review process as regular submissions.
